Questions We Asked Carolyn...
What is your favorite place to write? My computer is set up in the basement. I'd rather have a sunny office overlooking the ocean.
Are you a typewriter, Mac, or PC person? PC.
How many full-length novel manuscripts did you complete before selling? Two.
Can you give us a quote from one of your best (or worst) rejection letters? I don't remember the exact quote, but I got a very cold rejection letter from an agent who had requested a partial. The letter was unsigned, didn't mention my name or the book title, and told me never to bother them again with one of my manuscripts.
What would you say is the most valuable writers' training course you've taken? There are many, but I can't remember one in particular. Two multi-published authors who write as Elizabeth Keys were my first critique partners and they taught me more than any writing course.
What is your reason for writing? I love, love, love books and I crave a happy ending. Writing takes me to other worlds and allows me to control the characters and the actions. Sometimes the characters take over. I write what I want to read. I love making up stories and writing allows me to share my stories.
What would the hero of your latest book say if he met you on the street? "I love you for bringing Doriana back into my life. She's my redemption and you made it happen."
What would he DO? Give me a big hug and a kiss.
What advice would you give to other aspiring writers? Read the type of books you want to write, join Romance Writers of America, take writing courses, attend conferences, and never, ever give up.
